Making a Trinity Brooch / Three Leaf Clover #9

 Hello Fellow Needle Felter Explorers,

Today we will be first talking about Saint Patrick and what the 3 leaf clover meant to him. Second you can get details on how to make a Trinity (3 Leaf Clover) Brooch.

Patrick, before he became a preacher/Saint, as a boy in England was captured and taken to Ireland to be a slave. He later escaped and went back to England where he learned about Jesus and was saved. He then went back to Ireland to teach the Irish people whom he loved, about God in a simple way "Father, Son & Holy Ghost (Spirit)". So he utilized their homelands 3 leaf clover ☘️. THREE in ONE (3 in 1), Trinity

3 hearts are put together vs cookie cutter Shamrock ☘️(I do not have the cookie cutter).

Materials you will need minus the Shamrock cookie cutter (use it if you have it):
*1 1/2 " (1" also works well) heart-shaped cookie cutter (or freehand)
*Green felt to cut out heart backing for brooch
*Brooch pin (comes in packs)
*Barbed needle for NF (not shown here)
*Dark green roving
*Light green roving
*Pipecleaner 2" piece (1" piece for the smaller pin)
*Green thread (not shown)
*Needle πŸͺ‘ (not shown)
*All purpose glue vs Tacky Craft Glue (not shown)

Use the cookie cutter to trace one heart that you will cut ✂️ out and sew the brooch clip onto.

Make 3 dark green πŸ’š hearts with 5 layers of wool roving and needle felt until semi-firm. Than wrap the pipecleaner with green wool roving keep it flat while wrapping and needlefelting as needed (be careful not to hit the wire). Next carefully needlefelt the 3 hearts together 1/4 way up each side. Place the completed wrapped pipecleaner in the back middle.

Take thin wisps of wool to cover and to affix the pipecleaner onto the clover πŸ€ back with a multi-tool needle holder. Be careful not to break your needles on the pipecleaner wire.

Now it's time to sew the brooch pin to the heart-shaped felt cut-out.

I decided to place a decorative yellow green onto my Trinity Brooch, like a real clover πŸ€.
I thought the light green is too bright so I put wisps of darker green over them to subdue it.

It's time to glue (I used an all-purpose glue).
My glue was stinky and needed a well ventilated area for 24 hrs. Later I tried the Tacky Craft Glue and it worked fine with no smell.

Here's the FINISHED Trinity Brooch  😊

I also made the smaller Trinity Brooch

If you have a Shamrock cookie cutter (I do not) you can layer your wool roving into the leaf parts of the  cookie cutter. Than place the wrapped 2" pipecleaner where the stem is in the cookie cutter (overlap the pipecleaner into the roving) than place more wool roving over the cloverleaf part and start felting. Glue the heart brooch pin into place (instructions above). ENJOY.

May God hold you and yours in the palm of His πŸ‘‹

Thanks for coming along on this adventure, God Bless.

Romans 12:2 ... but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

I hope you continue to come along.

  1. I love the trinity explained in the shamrock and giving option for viewers to make thier own with the instructions. Also love the Irish blessing since I have some Irish heritage. Happy St Patrick's day.
